  • Commercial Real Estate Women Forecast for 2012

    Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW) of San Antonio will explore the 2012 Real Estate Forecast at their upcoming Forum on April 3rd at the JW Marriot.

    With a speaker panel of multiple industry experts such as Marsha McCombs with corporate perspectives, Trey Jacobson on the local economy, Sally French Tyler with the national outlook and a mystery speaker on brokerage trends, they will be led by moderator Misty May in a strategic discussion. Where are the new growth areas in San Antonio? What determines a good real estate investment in today’s market? How is energy sustainability changing the San Antonio real estate market with developments and transportation?

    With real estate being San Antonio's second largest economic generator, CREW is made up of the women of who are dynamically involved in the market. These commercial real estate women are the the pulse of change in the city. They are in the know when a company is relocating here or when a company is expanding or what
    new development is going up before anyone else.

  • New Leaders at Impact San Antonio Foundation

    Impact San Antonio Foundation Inc.’s Board of Directors for 2012 are: Ann Parker, President; Meg Salvadore, Vice President; Barbara Kyse, Treasurer; Pat Bridwell, Secretary; as well as board members: Jeanne Albrecht, Laura Bray, Susan Brothers, Kate Crone, Julia Eyer, Marilyn Harrington, Nicole Hensley, Michele Price and Jackie Pugh.

    Impact San Antonio is an all-woman, all volunteer organization, led by a Board of Directors that recruits as many women as possible who each donate $1,000 a year. They pool that money to make one annual $100,000 grant to a worthy San Antonio area non-profit organization after a thorough grant review and voting process. Beginning in the summer, grants are accepted and then reviewed in five categories: culture, education, environment, family, and health/wellness. Founded in 2004, Impact San Antonio has now donated more than $546,000 to area non-profits since 2005.

  • LANA DUKE OF RUTH’S CHRIS STEAK HOUSE WINS RESTAURANTEUR OF THE YEAR

    The Ontario Restaurant, Hotel & Motel Association (ORHMA) has announced Lana Duke the recipient of the 2011-2011 Toronto “Restauranteur of the Year Award”. The ORHMA Toronto Region received nominations from the public and industry through an online polling system.

    Lana became a Ruth's Chris franchise owner in 1993, opening her first restaurant in San Antonio. In 1995, Lana opened her next Ruth's Chris in Toronto. In June 2000 a second Ruth's Chris debuted in San Antonio, this time downtown. Her latest location opened in Mississauga, Ontario, in 2003. Today, Ruth's Chris Steak Houses appear on "best restaurants" lists nationwide, and Duke’s Ruth’s Chris restaurants have consistently ranked at or near the top among all Ruth’s Chris restaurants in several measures of performance. Her Canadian locations have won a number of nationwide Ruth’s Chris Steak House awards including the “Raving Fan Award” in 2007 and “Restaurant of the Year” for Mississauga in 2008. Additionally, her two Canadian restaurants won the 1997 “Restaurant of the Year” of all the Ruth’s Chris Steak Houses in the world—Lana had a clean sweep—her Mississauga location won first and Toronto won 2nd place that year!   • DiversityFIRST Award for Dean Russ

    The University of the Incarnate Word is proud to announce that Rita Russ, dean of UIW’s Virtual University was selected as a DiversityFIRST™ Award Winner presented by the Texas Diversity Council.

    Russ was honored in the individual achievement category for her dedication and continuing commitment to corporate and community events promoting mutual respect, acceptance, cooperation or tolerance.

    “Growing up on the West Side of San Antonio coupled with my experiences as an adult fostered an inherent appreciation for diversity and a UNI-cultural mindset. At the University of the Incarnate Word, I am able to use this gift as I live the Mission in my work. I see this award as recognition of that commitment as well,” said Russ.

    The Texas Diversity Council established the DiversityFIRST™ Awards Initiative in 2004, to recognize and commend organizations and individuals for their support of diversity and inclusion in the workplace.

  • ALPHA HOME FINDS a HOME with WELEAD

    The 2012 Charity of the Year for WELEAD, Women Executives Leading Empowering and Developing, an affiliate of the National Association for Female Executives, is Alpha Home, Inc. It is a non-profit treatment center providing specialized services to chemically dependent women.

    Alpha Home was born in 1965 from the heart of one woman, Hulene Dempsey, who wanted to make a difference in the lives of alcoholic women. With the inspiration of Hulene, Alpha Home began as a mission of Trinity Baptist Church at 208 E. Magnolia, with room to house 10 women. In the first 10 months of operation, 54 women lived and worked at Alpha Home, and then went on to lead productive lives. Today, Alpha Home serves more than 800 women annually.

    Now into our 45th year, Alpha Home’s mission continues to provide spiritually based substance abuse treatment and support to women and their families in order to prepare them to become more productive members of society. We do this by instilling into staff and clients the values of spirituality, integrity, discipline, dedication, and productivity.
